"It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit." -George Sheehan-
I did it!!! On October 13th at 8am I began my first half marathon journey. When the race started it was about 48 degrees, but warmed up pretty quickly after a few miles on the course. Sunny with a slight breeze made for perfect running weather. I felt great that day, which is really important when you are running that far. It can make a huge difference in the outcome of your run. Around mile four, I met up with another runner, Katie, who was running at the same pace as me. We ran the rest of the race together, and quickly discovered our common bond of being first time half marathoners. We encouraged each other when the running got tough, and at the end crossed the finish line together.
It was an amazing feeling as I ran up that hill and in my site was Matt, my parents, sister & friends at the finish line. It gave me the extra boost I needed to sprint to the finish. Not quite sure where that energy came from, but I found it from somewhere to finish strong! My mom and dad got me a sweet congratulations ballon and flowers. They are the greatest.
I will definitely run more half marathons in the future, and I think I have just enough crazy in me to run a marathon. I'm addicted. Thank you everyone for your love and encouragement on my little training journey! It meant a lot.
