Century Farm

The farm I am going to introduce you to is near and dear to my heart. It's my dad's families farm which is tucked away in the mountains of North Carolina. Every year we have a family reunion but this year was even more special because the farm became a North Carolina Century Farm. It was such an exciting day for our family. I had cousins from all over the country come in town for this celebration of our heritage.
The day couldn't have been more perfect. Sunshine. Cool breeze. Blue sky.
My mimi & sissy
If you don't know already I'm a hairstylist. This means I am always on duty at family events, especially when your shaggy haired uncle needs a shape up. My great aunt and uncle have a barbershop attached to their barn(they are retired hairstylists), so I used their shears and chair.
**would you please notice the two guns hanging behind me...a true barbershop on a farm!!**
My cousin Ryan who flew in from Texas and my uncle Glenn with his dashing new do.
A table of old family photos and documents kept the crowd entertained. It's so fun to look at old pictures!
I love the picture of this old beauty shop! Those are curlers hanging from the ceiling! yikes.
The picture below is of my great grandma Madalyn & my great grandpa Kelly. He was a handsome fella wasn't he?
The family reunion is also known as the "Pig Picken". Yes, they cook up a whole organically raised pig the day before and it is delicious.
My popeye is handsome just like his dad in the old picture above.
After supper Matt and I decided to take walk to work off some of the calories we just consumed. I am the type of person who can always "stop and smell the roses" in life. He on the other hand has a hard time stopping to notice the little things. He leaned down to sniff a flower on the walk and I said, "What are you doing?" He said,"Aren't you proud of me? I'm stopping to smell the flowers and enjoy the little things."  (melt my heart)
My beautiful cousin Meg
Matt is a child at heart (melt my heart again). Love him to the moon and back.
We are "that" family that got matching reunion shirts.
